Jill Giedt

I am a passionate Black female creative based in Portland, Oregon focused on movement and cultural exploration. I am a dancer, choreographer, teaching artist, and theater director. My mission is to showcase African American achievements and resilience that inspire me and others to develop more meaningful expression in work and life. I feel very connected to the roots and history of Black culture and it is my desire to build upon and share the gifts and wisdom it has brought and continues to bring into my life.

Ballet The Black Way

My teaching practice reimagines the ballet tradition to embrace, support, and empower Black girls. I meld classical music with African rhythms and explore the theatricality and universal stories told through ballets. I have found freedom and creativity through this art form and hope to share its beauty and power, the Black way, with the next generation of Black ballerinas.
